CDL Air Brake Test

The Air Brake Practice Test is much shorter than the General Knowledge CDL Practice test. This CDL Test is graded for you and you will have access to all the other free CDL tests from this page. This is information that you really need to learn if you are going to be a truck driver. Understanding how air brakes work is very important. If you don’t understand how they work you will not be able to troubleshoot problems that you may be having with them. The end result is losing money sitting on the side of the road not earning money! Click the link below to start the air brake test.

CDL Air Brakes Test

Free Hazmat CDL Test

If you want more trucking employment opportunities you will need to get your hazardous materials endorsement, on your CDL.  Most trucking companies require that you have it and you will need to learn this stuff whether you like it or not. The hazmat test is not a long test so you cannot get too many questions wrong to pass it. This endorsement does expire and requires a federal background check to obtain. Click the link below to start the Hazmat practice test!

CDL Hazmat Test

Combination Vehicles

The combination vehicles CDL test is another short CDL test. This CDL test is also needed and is full of important information needed for transporting combination vehicles. As with all the CDL tests, you need to study the CDL study guide provided by the DMV and then practice these CDL tests until you are comfortable that you know all the information. I read the CDL manual from front to back about 5 times and had no problem passing any of these tests. Follow the link below to start the combination vehicle CDL practice test.

I would not recommend Schneider to anyone. It is the worst company of any trade I ever worked for. The said .30-.32 per mile on-off per diem but when you get the first check it's .27 and .29 on/off per diem. They find any way they can to stick you with "preventable" accidents. They forgot me on Thanksgiving and let me sit for 4 days until the main shift got back from their holiday. Than promptly forgot they promised to get me home the next weekend. They also wanted me back out in 2 days after being otr for 30, so I took my 5 off and received an mia and did not know that for months. The VA paid them for my schooling and they still came after me for money. Oh yes, they found something stupid to fire me for because I needed time of due to some major home/family problems 3 days before my year was up. I could go on about the things they pull, especially to new drivers. My hat's off to the drivers that put up with it.

I went to C1 truck driver school in little rock, arkansas and it was so bad that i didnt complete the first week.the rooms were molded and alot of us got sick because of the mold.this is not the place for you!!! especially if you dont have health insurance like many of us and have to go to the hospital from mold exposure.I was dehydrated and had to come up with $250 to pay for some IV fluids in the hospital or they would not even treat me.So i was out the funds for driving out to arkansas and had to borrow money from some relatives to make it back home.this place is a huge joke. LAST BUT NOT LEAST.....IF YOU DONT DRIVE TO THE SCHOOL YOU BETTER BRING 4 WEEKS WORTH OF FOOD WITH YOU BECAUSE THERE IS NOT A STORE FOR AT LEAST 10 MILES.

The school is a SCAM!!! DO NOT FALL FOR IT!!! They get you down to Cedar Hill Texas with a ?free? bus trip, but quickly get their money back when you pay the $100.00 admission fee. Then you are STUCK there with no transportation. The hotel is a sty. It is also in a VERY bad area, so you do not want to walk anywhere; but the only restaurant in the hotel is VERY expensive and the food is gross!!! Rooms are over crowded and dirty. Over the phone the recruiters make you feel like you will have a job?but they really just intended to get you down there where they can wrangle you into signing a lease on one of their trucks?and once you are there they really pressure you!!! DO NOT SIGN A LEASE?GOOGLE CR ENGLAND SCAM / LEASE and just read all of the complaints. They have really hurt and bankrupt a lot of folks!!! THE SCHOOL IS A BIG CON JOB. (See my experience link below). The second day I was there, I saw a guy with his bags packed and I asked him why he was leaving. He said that he had completed the CDL program and was told that CR England would be sending a truck for him to be a second seat driver (HE DID NOT SIGN A TRUCK LEASE), but that after a week the truck never came for him. He said he had waited another week and called CR England over and over but they would not return his calls. Finally, after the third week of waiting, they told him that he was not even in their system and he needed to leave the hotel. He said this place is a total scam, get out while you can! I have heard that many who would not sign a lease, were just thrown out of the boarding stable onto the street in a very bad area with no place to go and no way to get back home. It has been reported that those who would NOT sign a lease were suddenly found to have a dirty drug test, often AFTER they had completed the course?four weeks later. However, the drug tests are done the first day and the results are available immediately; so CR England at least got their CDL TUITION and INTEREST out of them; but they really just wanted them to sign a lease. You can read about my personal experience here: https://www.ripoffreport.com/driving-schools/cr-england/cr-england-cdl-and-lease-scam-ed7f4.htm

I agree my experience showed me what a scam thees cdl mills/ schools really are. true enough about the goofed up mentality of the driver solutions/ c1 truck driving , which are one in the same entity. What I have noticed about this industry is that every thing is put on the driver & none on the carrier. You graduate the not so great school of three weeks. learning all theese safety rules & procedures you are supposed to follow. But from the time you get started with your carrier you are then told & shown how theese rules are not followed.trainers who try to teach you how to lie on your log books. If any body with half of a bit of intelligence. looked at most drivers logs they would know that there is no way that it is humanly possible to log the amount of miles traveled in the recorded amount of time specified. Also I completely agree about the new drivers with lower pay being given ridiculus miles to be driven in unresonable amounts of time. Then you drive very illegally to try to make it & are so tired you should not be driving a big wheel let alone an 80,00 pound tractor trailor. especially in the mountains, so you call you fleet mngr. and guess what i'm very tired and over hours. She says we need you to do every thing in your power to get that load there anyway and that you must have gone out of route or screwed up some way. I tried talking to her supervisor and proved mathmatically that this and most of the other runs that were given to me. Could not be made in the given time frame buy abiding by posted speeds, hours of service, andno extra time given for steep mountain driving. which if anyone has driven a rig up & down mountains, being very heavy or maxed out in legal weight or perhaps just a bit over. You are not going to ascend that hill or mountain very quickly. Oh but then you are supposed to descend one gear lower than you ascended it in as you were trained to do in school. Yeah ive got to tell you I must have been one of the only people following that rule for a while anyway. but back on point the supervisor had silence when i proved it out mathmatically. Then he responded the way he must have been trained because they all seemed to handle what i was saying the same way by telling me how rude i was being by standing up to their lies. Several times i asked to speak to someone in thier safety department as per training. But they just transferred me to different people in fleet operations. Supposedly by law their supposed to have this department (safety that is) to keep drivers from being bullied over h.o.s. and d.o.t. regs.I never did speak to anyone in any safety department. So, then I was told I was to come back to joplin to have a disscussion about why i was un able to make deliveries on time. but firs t go from cookeville tennessee to st louis to get another very heavy load, then to joplin where it would be handed off to go to o.k. So then very tired again on way to joplin from st louis. I stopped to rest told dispatch they did not like that so they proceeded to harass me by qualcom and cell phone. Then they used my locator to find out which truck stop i was at. So that they told the people at said truck stop they were worried because they could not get ahold of me. So they come out and bang on my truck door while im trying to get some sleep. Oh yeah their not supposed to do that either. So i had to leave truck stop and park in lot of closed store elsewhere just to get them to leave me alone to sleep. Remember that training and dot regs say if you are too tired don't drive. but the carriers will not let you stop and get the sleep you need. Look at all the wrecks to do with drivers who are tired. I believe from my personal experience and speaking with other drivers as well as incident reports made by law enforcement. that we know and the d.o.t knows that the carriers are behind it trying to beliitle you or aggrivate you to keep on driving in spite of the law and good sense and your bodies need to sleep. But the driver is the only one who suffers and thoose the drivers kill or hurt. Theese carriers just dont care it must be cheaper to just run your drivers into the ground and replace them with new ones and factor in so many fatalities and lawsuits. I say this because the driver has to know theese regs to pass their written exam. But law enforcement and government will not do enough to stop this madness. I say expose theese freight companies for what they are doing and fin them untill they stop putting driver and the general public at risk. That is why i quit my carrier. I just thank the Lord Jesus Christ I stopped the insanity before i became just another statistic.

Thier CDL training is a joke i went there in the summer of 09 but it ant Kirkwood colleges fault the trainers are very great but CRST dont give them much time to work with pepole. For the company them selfs they suck its not 90% drop and hook like the web page says mybe more like 15% . Me and my co driver are never late for pick up or delivery and we might average 3800 to 4200 on a good week . You will sit and wait for loads and to be loaded and unloaded. They do alot of air fright so you wait for that load for hours .So in a nut shell dont go there its not a good place to work at all. but if you do chose to go there be sure to keep up with your mileage they WILL short you . I did not get fired or any thing this is just me try to help someone out as soon as my time is up im going else where.
Student - Comment on Werner Truck Driving School by Another Bad Werner Statistic- Trucking School Reviews by Another Bad Werner Statistic
13 Oct 2009 at 9:45pm
I can't speak for the school Werner has. But if the school is half as bad as the company - STAY AWAY!!!!! And do yourself the favor and STAY AWAY from Werner alltogether. My life has been ruined thanks to Werner and their needless termination, and they'll ruin yours too. I am ruined in that I am not a student coming out of school now, and I have less than 6 months First Seat Driver Experience. Meaning: I am now UNEMPLOYABLE in trucking - no better than any criminal or a driver with tons of tickets or accidents on his record. Know this everyone: most of the trucking carriers are on a hiring frenzy because they get subsidy government bailout money for each student they take on to the tune of $5,000.00 to $10,000.00 PER STUDENT. This is money the company is supposed to use for the school payback. Instead they look for any reason to terminate drivers (especially the drivers who have been on for several years and making more than the minimum pay per mile rate), or make drivers quit by creating a Hostile Work Environment. In this economy, there is no way any company continues to hire the way these trucking carriers are who take students out of school. Trust me, they are dirty, and lousy to work for. they do not care about you or the motoring public. Just the subsidy money they get once you get to Orientation. And ANY company hiring armies of people on a regular basis has to have some anomalies with it - especially in this job market and economy. At first, I figured it was the job and that too many do not take to being away from home weeks at a time and home 3 days and away weeks again for what amounts to MINIMUM WAGE. It's more than that. Read on and learn how Werner created the Hostile Work Environment for me. It's the Gods Honest Truth. Hostile Work Environment: An example of a way a hostile work environment may be defined is (1) when a boss or manager begins to engage in a manner designed to make you quit in retaliation for your actions. Suppose you report safety violations at work, get injured at work, attempt to join a union, complain to upper level management about a problem at work, or act as a whistleblower in any respect. (2) Then, the company's response is to do all manner of things to make you quit, like writing you up for work rules you didn't break, reducing your hours, scheduling you for hours that are in total conflict with what you can do, setting impossible goals, replacing a base pay with commission or reducing your salary. (3) The company's reaction can be viewed as creating a hostile work environment, one that makes it impossible to work and is an attempt to make you quit so that the employer does not have to pay unemployment benefits. Breaking it down by the numbers with the experiences I had by Werner, the Hostile work environment is as follows: ((1): a boss or manager - in my case, my dispatcher - begins to engage in a manner designed to make you quit in retaliation for your actions): In my case, I was forced to run against the clock with just about every load I was assigned to in spite that just about all loads have a window which exceeds the delivery time I was given. I asked at many of my stops if the load had a window, and they told me YES. The result was I had no time for showering on a long distance load (often showering must be done while enroute as it is often that the 10 hour shutdown occurs in a location where a shower is unavailable - such as a rest area, parking lot - etc.). I was denied personal drive time to get to a shower of shop for food often because I was under a preassigned load. Or I did not put in for personal drive time because after a day on the road, I needed my full rest. 10 hours gave me just enough time to eat, do paperwork and check scheduling, and get my 8 hours sleep to say nothing of factoring in showering and wait time for the shower. In using the term my dispatcher used - "fighting", I began to fight him as he saw no reason when I attempted to get him to ease up on my tight running times. And if I was shut down at a location more than the normal 10 hour, the situation was the same, that being no shower or place to shop for food - etc. where I was, and waiting until I was on the move again to get to a shower, food etc.. Running against the clock as I had to do is contrary to safety; and because I had no time for showering and food breaks, goes contrary to health and hygene. My dispatcher contends it was because of how I logged. I did not log in any way contrary to D.O.T. regulations, but I did log contrary to Werner's attempt to make a driver work (be on duty) more than 70 hours a week. I did not quit. Instead I began to take breaks and showers when I really needed them, resulting in late loads. I might add that I was run far more than veterin drivers with years in the company because it was cheaper to run me (pay scale). I spoke to many veterins driving the same regions I was, who would sit often for days waiting for a load assignment at the same time I was recieving preassigned loads often before I delivered the load I was under. And with the recession, I am sure the company was saving any way they could. ((2): Then, the company's response is to do all manner of things to make you quit, like writing you up for work rules you didn't break, reducing your hours, scheduling you for hours that are in total conflict with what you can do, setting impossible goals....): In my case, Because I did not quit in response to my dispatcher's continued reluctance to loosten my travel time a little, I was set up for the late loads. I will note the fact that in addition to my low pay scale being the reason to run me more than the veterin driver, it also works out that the more miles a dispatcher runs a driver, the more the dispatcher makes. In conjunction to taking care of myself, delivering on time (especially long distance) was the impossible task. I even recieved a load on an occasion which could not be delivered on time even without a break of any kind. There were also occasions during my tight running times I was set up for load swaps with other drivers - something Werner seems to have a habit of doing. But because my times were so tight, and in my attempt to deliver on time without time to stop multiple times, I did not stop every time the Qualcomm beeped. This is because most of the time the messages were the same "generic" bulletins sent daily. Stopping - say 8 times (average amount of times the Qualcomm would beep a generic message in a day) - can lose an hour or more on the road because I'd have to pull into a rest area to stop the truck and use the Qualcomm. And most often, I did not have that hour to lose. My Dispatcher (JD Hodgestradt) seemed to think I could stop multiple times to look at every single Qualcomm message and still make the loads on time. After missing load swaps and arguing with dispatch about the reasons why, I began to stop each time the qualcomm beeped (often every half hour) which resulted in slower average speeds and late loads. This forced dispatch to back up my delivery times. This is a case where dispatch/driver relations were not working out, and I was not given another dispatcher after my request to Fleet Management. The impossible task thing is something I also experienced with Swift when getting a truck assignment; resulting in my driver code being terminated which they put on my DAC report as a V.Q. (Voluntary Quit) - an earlier result of the recession and having hired too many drivers for the government subsidy these trucking companies recieved for taking on student drivers. The end result with Werner was I was terminated for late loads, and disciplinary issues (fighting with dispatch). ((3): The company's reaction can be viewed as creating a hostile work environment, one that makes it impossible to work and is an attempt to make you quit so that the employer does not have to pay unemployment benefits): It is my contention that the company (Werner Enterprises) made it impossible for me to work in not seeing reason where the tight load times were concerned and not giving me a better window to properly take care of myself. Other examples of an impossible work environment with Werner were repairs not addressed in a timely manner (my truck was down a total of 15 days in a 40 day period for one problem which resulted in a low production rating my dispatcher tried to blame me for), and a Qualcomm System saying I was idling my truck when I was not. The issues of idling was cause for termination as well as late loads and low production, and I have seen many terminations of drivers within Werner for idling. I had this pressure and worry over something I was not doing on top of my load times, and saw myself as being set up in this instance as well as the late loads. This added to fights with dispatch, and more added stress on me. Because I did not quit (in a bad economy/recession, there was no way I was going to simply quit), the company used the late loads and my fighting with dispatch as reason for terminating me. this results in my not being able to collect unemployment benefits as per what I read in the guidelines to be eligible. The tight running times (time vs. mileage) is all a matter of record through the electronic logging system. Additionally, my dispatcher (J.D. Hodgestradt) was uncooperative in helping me when I'd not know what certain things would mean. He'd not address my inquiry when I put it to him. As far as I see, Werner created an unnecessary hostile work environment on top of the usuals in trucking I was well aware of and willing to accept. The usuals being low pay, long hours, only 1 day off per week worked, away from home at least 3 weeks at a time, rude people in the terminals, not to mention the everyday hazards non-professional drivers create on the road on a daily basis. Werner added to these anomalies by not allowing me time when enrout on a long distance haul to properly care for myself, and do my job in a safe manner. Seriously: If you go to work for Werner - BEST OF LUCK TO YOU, and good luck getting the 6 months other carriers require. If you have a choice, go somewhere else - though I can not recommend Swift either since they never gave me a truck after I trained with them before I went to Werner. Trucking for me was a mistake when all i wanted to do was to get out and drive some loads safely and legally.

Central Tech - Drumright, OK. 23 day course - 4 1/2 weeks, M-F 7am -4:30pm. Cost $2,250 - twice that for out of state residents. Certified by PTDI. I just graduated, and overall it is an excellent school. Class size is under 15 - ours was 12 - and just two students to a truck. They had a complete, large paved course and the tractors were well maintained on site and only 10 yrs old or newer with many extra trucks available if needed. They were real over the road tractors with three axles and sleepers and the trailers were 48' with the axles slid all the way back. All the trucks were 9 speeds. Classroom was maybe 1/3 of the class and concentrated mainly on logbooks and air brake system, with much of the textbook assigned as homework. We spent much time out on the course learning straight backing, 90 degree backing, offset backing, parallel parking, shifting, coupling, pre-trip inspection, etc. The instructors would demonstrate a particular skill and then let you work at it. You would be teamed up with a different classmate each day. There were always at least three instructors on the course to help if you were struggling. The written CDL test was on day 7 and the road CDL test was on day 15. (Two of our class failed the road test and were able to retake it on day 22 - both passed) We then took several road trips out on the real roads with loaded trailers including one at night. On day 22, we had to pass a skills test (mostly backing skills) and a road test to graduate from Central Tech which was harder than the CDL road test. Everyone passed. The only two negatives were our class was assigned 6 trucks and you were assigned a different one each day, and even though they all were the same year and model, each was a little different which you had to adjust to and you didn't know which one you were going to test in. Also, the course moves very quickly - we were only in the trucks 12 days before our CDL drive test and we were done with the course after just 20 days in the trucks - obviously none of us felt that we had mastered truck driving in this time - that comes later with experience. I hope this helps, because I didn't know what to expect when I first arrived at truck driver school!

Okay, the school (C1) in general? The training overall was okay. But be advised, things move real fast. And looking over contracts before signing is a near impossible proposition. The school is a cram course (3 weeks) of things others take 3 months to teach and train you at. One annoyance: C1 can dispense with the Drill Sargeant ways too many instructors have of teaching. Maybe the 20 somethings can use a little discipline at times, but people in my age category don't need to be yelled at like we are a raw recruit in the Marine Corps - ESPECIALLY WHEN BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE TRUCK ON THE FIRST DAY ON THE ROAD!!!!!!! Grabbing gear shifters while driving almost had me pull over, set the brakes, and tell the instructor to drive the truck himself. Extend the same respect and courtesy you yourself want, or find another profession. You are not paying the student, the student keeps you in a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!! C1 should screen applicants fully before committing them to the school. Or maybe they do and have them come to the school anyway just to get some more money. I have seen too many applicants going back home on the first or second day for all sorts of issues which should be known before the student is accepted and leaves for school. If a student was stupid enough to do drugs before attending, then that is on them. I am talking about things like license issues, things on a background check - etc. that should be known long before the student is told to leave for C1 - their time and money wasted. I saw about 15 or so out of the original 50 gone the first couple of days because of "surprise issues". FYI: of the 50 in my class, only about 15 or so of us made it to getting our CDL-A. And above all, if you are CONTRACTED to work for a spacific carrier upon successful graduation, and you are DROPPED during school...... GO HOME RIGHT THEN AND THERE!!!!!!! Especially if you call your carrier and they do not have a record or explanation of why they dropped you!!!!!!!!!!! Don't let them (Driver Solutions) sweet talk you into another carrier as I did. I should have gone home when it was aleged I was dropped by Decker (PAM/Decker had no record of my being dropped, or why when I called them to inquire while at school, and a few months later). Bear in mind that large corporations and businesses care not about the little guy, and some even get off on the kill and ruining the lives of others. Check into things. Read forums. Talk to other drivers. Remember, these schools are a BUSINESS. They want your money. Also remember your LIFE is a BUSINESS, and you need to look after your number 1 business - YOU.
